What Types of Ecosystems Exist?

Ecosystems can vary in size. What sets them apart are their different environments and varied populations. Some examples of ecosystems on our planet are ponds, deserts, grasslands, woodlands, oceans and rain forests. Ecosystems that are considered healthy have many different species living in them. The communities that live in a certain place define the adaptations of certain animals and the characteristics of that location.

Let's explore some ecosystems!

Sounds

When you listen to the sounds of these ecosystems, can you distinguish the sounds of any animals? What differences are there between the two communities?

Ocean:

What can you hear in this ecosystem? Do you hear the sound of any animals?

Rain Forest:

Can you hear more animal sounds in the rain forest than in the ocean? What does that say about the population that lives there?
